The gondola is a traditional Venetian rowing boat. Once the most common boat in Venice, it is now used mainly for romantic sightseeing of Italy, as a shuttle for short trips to cross the Grand Canal, and for rowing races.
The gondola is a traditional, flat-bottomed Venetian rowing boat, well suited to the conditions of the Venetian Lagoon. Gondolas were for centuries the chief means of transportation within Venice and still have a role in public transport, serving as traghetti (ferries) over the Grand Canal. They are also used in special Regattas (rowing races) held amongst gondoliers. Their primary role, however, is to carry tourists on rides at established price.
A gondola lift is a type of aerial lift, often called a cable car, which consists of a loop of steel cable that is strung between two stations, sometimes over intermediate supporting towers. The cable is driven by a bull wheel in the terminal, which is connected to an engine or electric motor. Because of the proliferation of such systems in the Alpine regions of Europe, the French language name of Télécabine is also used in an English language context. Gondola lifts should not be confused with aerial tramways (where a cabin is suspended from a fixed cable and is pulled by another cable), which are also sometimes known as "cable cars".
Gandola in gulmarg
Gulmarg has this gondola terrain starting construction in 1994 and by the end of the year 2005 may complete track is ready for public and today you can ride the gondola terrain, a 36 seat cabins give you a pleasant ride over the 3980 meters above sea level.
Peoples who love skiing use these opportunities to glide in either direction along with Mt. apharwat are northwest or southwest. You can use the slopes to see the amazing meadow view of Gulmarg and also cover distance parts of Gulmarg meadow.
If you are gliding in other direction, there is exit door of gondola from where you can slide over 1700 meters and reach drang. This is one of the most adventures skiing options you have, but before making attempt please make sure that you have appropriate knowledge and expert guide with you to help in any incidence. We always recommend visitors to use the ride to joy with trained and certified guide only.
You can also use the centre area snowboarding from gondola top to mid station,
The slopes served by Stage One of the gondola, below the mid station restaurant at 3050 meters, are far more gentle. With plenty of gigantic pines and firs to help visibility, the area provides well protected riding in all weather conditions. Intermediate riders should be aware that there is only one marked run from mid-station to the gondola base and that it is only groomed on an infrequent basis. There is a "return track from skier's left", which will provide an easy finish for skiers to numerous unmarked descents through scattered trees including plenty of "powder stashes".
One of our favorite home tracks is the old chairlift line which runs parallel to the gondola - "Mughuls" is the closest Gulmarg has to a bump run. Empty chairs hang overhead, defunct and motionless, like ghostly spectators of your powder snow finesse - a surreal reminder of skiers from bygone days and their earlier adventures in Gulmarg!
So, joy the ride and let’s make it a memorable skiing holiday for you and your friends.
